Gasket Material Certifications Banner

Durlon sealing materials are tested and certified to meet global standards for emissions control, safety, and regulatory compliance across critical industrial applications.

Verified Performance Through Global Certification

Industrial sealing systems operate under demanding conditions involving extreme temperatures, aggressive chemicals, and high-pressure environments. Certification ensures that gasket materials meet recognized standards for safety, emissions control, mechanical integrity, and hygienic compliance. Durlon products are independently tested and validated against internationally recognized regulatory frameworks to ensure performance and reliability in critical industrial systems.

Through extensive testing and third-party verification, Durlon sealing materials support regulatory compliance across industries including:

Durlon Certification Standards

“tested
Durlon gasket materials are validated against multiple international standards to ensure reliable performance, environmental compliance, and operational safety in regulated applications. These certifications enable engineers, maintenance professionals, and plant operators to confidently specify Durlon materials, knowing they meet strict industry requirements for safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Durlon icon Fire Safe Certification

Fire-safe certifications verify that gasket materials maintain sealing integrity during and after exposure to high temperature fire conditions common in refinery and petrochemical environments. Durlon products tested to API fire safe standards provide an additional layer of protection in critical process systems.

API fire testing standards address different valve designs and service conditions across the oil and gas industry. API 6FA applies primarily to valves used in high pressure upstream applications such as wellhead and production equipment and evaluates their ability to maintain pressure containment during and after direct fire exposure. API 6FB evaluates the fire performance of quarter turn valves and is commonly referenced for installations in both onshore and offshore facilities.

The distinction between onshore and offshore service reflects the operating environment and associated risk profile. Onshore installations are located at land based production, pipeline, or processing sites where fire events may involve hydrocarbon pool fires and accessible emergency response. Offshore installations operate on fixed or floating platforms where space constraints, limited evacuation routes, and exposure to marine conditions increase the consequences of fire. API 607 focuses on soft seated quarter turn valves typically used in refining, petrochemical processing, and general industrial service where maintaining tight shutoff before and after fire exposure is critical for plant safety.

Durlon icon TA-Luft Low Emission Certification

TA-Luft certification confirms that a sealing material meets the requirements of the German Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control, known as TA-Luft. This regulation establishes strict limits on fugitive emissions from industrial equipment in order to reduce the release of pollutants into the atmosphere. Compliance with TA-Luft demonstrates that the sealing material has been tested and verified to maintain very low leakage rates under defined pressure and temperature conditions when installed in standardized flange assemblies.

Low emission gasket technologies are engineered to minimize leakage at flange connections and other sealing points within pressurized systems. By reducing the release of volatile organic compounds and other process gases, these sealing materials help industrial facilities meet environmental compliance requirements while supporting improved air quality protection and reliable long term sealing performance.

Durlon icon FDA Compliance

FDA compliance indicates that the materials used in a gasket formulation meet the requirements established by the United States Food and Drug Administration for substances that may come into contact with food. This designation confirms that the raw materials have been evaluated and determined to be suitable for use in food processing, packaging, and sanitary manufacturing environments where incidental or direct contact with food products may occur.

These materials are produced using ingredients that conform to applicable FDA regulations, such as those outlined in Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR), which defines substances that are permitted for food contact applications. Compliance with these regulations helps ensure that the gasket material does not introduce harmful contaminants, release unsafe substances, or otherwise compromise the safety, quality, or integrity of food products during processing.

In addition to meeting food safety requirements, FDA compliant gasket materials are engineered to maintain effective sealing performance under the demanding operating conditions commonly found in sanitary processing equipment. This includes resistance to temperature fluctuations, cleaning agents, and mechanical stresses associated with routine cleaning and sterilization procedures. As a result, FDA compliant gasket materials support both regulatory adherence and reliable sealing performance in hygienic processing environments.

Durlon icon BAM Certification

BAM certification indicates that a gasket material has been tested by the German Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) to verify its suitability for oxygen service, where materials can ignite more easily due to high oxygen concentration. The testing evaluates oxygen compatibility through procedures such as determining the autogenous ignition temperature (AIT), assessing resistance to aging in high-pressure oxygen, examining flange ignition behavior, and evaluating reactivity with liquid oxygen. The gasket material must demonstrate an AIT of about 468 °C at ~55 bar oxygen pressure and retain its ignition resistance after accelerated aging, leading to BAM’s conclusion that the material can be used in oxygen systems up to 52 bar and 260 °C under the tested conditions.

Durlon icon USP Class VI Certification

USP Class VI certification verifies that a material meets the biological reactivity requirements established by the United States Pharmacopeia for applications in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical processing environments. Materials that achieve this classification have undergone a series of standardized tests that evaluate their potential to cause adverse biological responses, including systemic toxicity, intracutaneous reactivity, and implantation effects.

Materials that are tested and certified to USP Class VI standards are considered suitable for use in equipment where hygienic and pharmaceutical grade materials are required. Their compliance supports the use of sealing components in processes that demand strict material safety, cleanliness, and compatibility with sensitive pharmaceutical or bioprocessing operations.

Durlon icon ABS PDA Certifications

An ABS PDA certification is a Product Design Assessment issued by the American Bureau of Shipping that confirms a gasket design has been reviewed for compliance with applicable ABS classification rules and relevant industry standards for marine and offshore service. The assessment evaluates the design data, material composition, and intended operating conditions to determine whether the gasket is suitable for use in bolted flange joints on ABS classed vessels or offshore facilities.

The certification applies to the product design rather than individual manufactured units and confirms that the gasket meets specified performance criteria such as temperature, pressure, and applicable material or fire test standards. It provides assurance that the design has been independently evaluated by ABS and is acceptable for defined marine and offshore applications when used within the specified service limits.

Durlon icon NSF 61 Certified Material

An NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 Declaration refers to a formal statement confirming that a product complies with the requirements of NSF/ANSI/CAN 61, a standard that evaluates materials, components, and devices used in drinking water systems to ensure they do not introduce harmful contaminants into potable water. The declaration typically indicates that the product has been tested and certified by an accredited third party and meets established limits for the extraction of regulated and unregulated chemical substances.

Compliance with NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 demonstrates that the materials in contact with drinking water, such as pipes, valves, coatings, and treatment equipment, have been assessed for their potential impact on water quality under defined testing conditions. The declaration is commonly used in regulatory documentation, procurement specifications, and product certification records to verify that a product is suitable for use in drinking water applications in accordance with public health protection requirements in North America.
