Lab Testing

In-House Gasket Lab Testing for Proven Sealing Performance

When gasket performance matters, confidence starts in the lab. At Durlon, our in-house gasket testing capabilities help validate material quality, sealing performance, emissions control, and production consistency before products reach demanding field applications.

Our lab testing program supports customers who need more than a gasket supplier. They need a sealing partner that can help reduce leakage risk, improve reliability, support compliance goals, and provide technical data for critical applications in chemical processing, oil and gas, power generation, water and wastewater, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, mining, marine, and OEM environments.

Durlon performs gasket testing on both qualified raw materials and finished gasket products. This gives our team greater control over quality verification, performance validation, and product development. By testing in-house, we can evaluate how gasket materials respond to real-world sealing demands such as pressure, temperature, compression, creep relaxation, oxidation, and emissions performance.

Testing That Supports Better Customer Outcomes

The right gasket must do more than fit between flanges. It must seal reliably, resist operating conditions, and help protect people, equipment, and the environment. Durlon’s lab testing capabilities are designed to help customers:

• Improve sealing reliability in critical applications.
• Reduce the risk of fugitive emissions and leakage.
• Validate gasket material performance before installation.
• Support product selection with performance-based data.
• Compare materials for demanding temperature, pressure, and chemical service.
• Improve confidence in gasket quality, consistency, and traceability.
• Identify the right sealing solution for challenging operating conditions.

In-House Gasket Testing Capabilities

Durlon performs a range of ASTM gasket property tests, including tensile testing, creep testing, leakage testing, and compressibility/recovery testing. Our lab also uses conditioning ovens to prepare samples and perform oxidation testing on graphite and other high-temperature gasket materials.

Our Amtec testing machine allows us to perform standard gasket performance testing as well as advanced tests requiring high levels of accuracy. This machine-focused testing process helps generate repeatable data that can be used to evaluate sealing behavior under controlled conditions.

Durlon also tests gasket factors to EN 13555, performs ultra-low emissions leakage testing using a helium mass spectrometer, and conducts competitor material testing for comparative evaluation.

For metallic gasket components and materials, our team uses PMI — Positive Material Identification — and hardness testing equipment to verify metallurgy before materials are used in production. This helps ensure that the right materials are entering the manufacturing process and that finished products meet Durlon’s quality expectations.

Machine Process-Focused Quality Verification

Durlon’s lab testing process is built around controlled, measurable, and repeatable evaluation. From raw material qualification to finished gasket verification, our testing equipment helps support consistent production and dependable sealing performance.

Our process-focused approach includes:

• Raw material qualification before production.
• Finished gasket product testing.
• ASTM gasket property testing.
• High-temperature oxidation testing.
• Amtec performance testing.
• EN 13555 gasket factor testing.
• Helium mass spectrometer leakage testing.
• Positive Material Identification for metallurgy verification.
• Hardness testing for metallic components.
• Competitor material comparison testing.

This combination of machine-driven testing and technical expertise helps Durlon develop, validate, and manufacture gasket solutions for demanding applications where performance cannot be left to assumption.

Why Lab Testing Matters

Unexpected gasket failure can lead to downtime, maintenance costs, product loss, environmental concerns, and safety risks. Durlon’s in-house lab testing helps customers make better sealing decisions by providing performance insight before a gasket is placed into service.

Whether the application involves high temperature, low emissions, aggressive media, or critical flange connections, Durlon’s testing capabilities help connect product selection with real operating requirements.
