Hydraulic Bending

Hydraulic Bending for Large OD Gasket Manufacturing

When large-diameter gaskets are required, material efficiency, dimensional consistency, and lead time all matter. Durlon’s hydraulic bending capability is designed to support the manufacturing of large OD gasket components while helping reduce unnecessary material waste and cost.

Our hydraulic bending process allows us to form rings for both spiral wound gasket components and kammprofile gaskets using flat bar strip from slit coils or strips cut from sheets on our water jet table. This approach is especially valuable for large OD gaskets because it helps eliminate the center drop that occurs when rings are cut from solid sheet material, reducing scrap and helping keep gasket manufacturing more cost-effective.

Hydraulic Bending Benefits

Hydraulic bending can help deliver:

More cost-effective large OD gaskets
By reducing material waste, hydraulic bending helps control the cost of large-diameter gasket production.

Improved material utilization
Using flat bar strip instead of cutting full rings from sheet material helps minimize unused center material.

Reliable production for demanding gasket applications
The process supports precision-formed components used in spiral wound and kammprofile gasket designs.

Flexible sizing for large-diameter requirements
Durlon can bend gasket outside diameters from 8″ to 167″, with cross sections from ¼” through 2″.

Machine Process

Hydraulic bending applies controlled force to flat bar strip, gradually forming the material into the required circular geometry. The process is well suited for gasket components where consistent radius, controlled forming, and efficient material use are critical.

Material can be sourced from slit coils or waterjet-cut strips, allowing Durlon to select the most efficient manufacturing route based on gasket size, material, cross section, and application requirements. For large OD gaskets, this process helps avoid the waste associated with cutting a complete ring from sheet stock.
